Check your site for ADA compliance

Free. About ten seconds. Nothing is stored.

Runs the same WCAG rules plaintiffs' firms scan for: missing alt text, contrast, unlabeled forms, unnamed links and buttons, headings and landmarks.

Powered by axe-core, the open source accessibility engine from Deque that also runs inside Google Lighthouse and Microsoft Accessibility Insights.

Free full report

Scan up to ten pages. Every finding explained.

Enter your address. We run axe-core's WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 rules against up to ten pages and explain every finding in plain English: what it is, who it blocks, and how it gets fixed.

What to scan

Nothing is stored and nothing is sent to anyone. The scan reads your public pages the way a visitor's browser would.

Powered by axe-core, the open source accessibility engine from Deque that also runs inside Google Lighthouse and Microsoft Accessibility Insights. WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 rules, the same ones plaintiffs' firms scan with.

How a website becomes a lawsuit

Federal law sets the duty. State law sets the price.

Written for an owner, not a lawyer. Where a question needs a lawyer we say so. Everything with a number has a source. Not legal advice.

3,117
federal website accessibility lawsuits filed in 2025, up 27 percent from 2024
64%
of companies sued in 2025 reported revenue under $25 million
$4,000
minimum statutory damages per violation under California's Unruh Act, plus attorney fees
46%
of 2025 federal cases were against a business that had been sued before

If a letter arrived: this week

Letters have deadlines, and a complaint filed after a letter costs more than the letter. Do not reply yourself; anything you write can be quoted back. Take dated screenshots of the pages named. Call a lawyer who has handled accessibility claims; they will recognise the firm and know how it settles.

What settling looks like

Small business cases commonly settle in the $5,000 to $20,000 range, plus your own fees, plus a promise to reach WCAG 2.1 AA within 90 to 180 days. A documented rebuild plan with dates is the leverage your lawyer puts in the first reply.

What makes you a poor target

Nothing makes you unsueable. Four things help: a site with no critical or serious scan findings, one that works with a keyboard and screen reader, an accessibility statement with a contact route, and dated scan reports that prove what the site did on the day.

Questions

Straight answers.

Can a small business really be sued over its website?

Yes. In 2025, 64 percent of companies sued reported revenue under $25 million, and 46 percent of federal cases targeted a business that had been sued before.

Where does the dollar amount in the letter come from?

State law. The ADA has no damages for a private website case. California's Unruh Act sets $4,000 minimum per violation plus attorney fees; New York cases carry similar exposure.

Will an accessibility widget protect me?

No. The FTC fined accessiBe $1 million in January 2025 over that claim, and UsableNet counted 119 businesses sued in May 2025 alone while a widget was running on their site.

What is the fastest way to reduce the risk?

Run the check above. Then fix or rebuild so there are no critical or serious findings, publish an accessibility statement, and keep dated reports. The builder here does the rebuild for $99 a month; Hi Dev Mobile at +1 (650) 766-5370 can do it for you.

Start with a description. End with a website.
